TOKYO, Japan, January 27, 2021 – Renesas Electronics Group (TSE: 6723), a global supplier of semiconductor solutions, today announced the launch of 48 new RA2E1 MCU products to expand its 32-bit RA2 MCU portfolio. The entry-level single-chip RA2E1 MCU is based on a 48MHz Arm® Cortex®-M23 core with up to 128KB of code Flash and 16KB of SRAM.
The RA2E1 MCU product family supports a wide operating voltage range of 1.6V to 5.5V and a variety of packages such as LQFP, QFN, LGA, BGA and Wafer Level Chip Package (WLCSP), providing excellent performance, ultra-low power consumption, innovative peripherals and optimized combination of small packages. These features make the RA2E1 product group ideal for high-performance, low-power systems in cost-sensitive and space-constrained applications. The new MCUs offer an upgrade path with software/hardware expansion and are ideal entry-level products for the strong lineup of Renesas RA product families.

The upgraded low-power features in the RA2E1 MCU cover all on-chip peripherals, flash and SRAM. These features enable the chip to achieve the lowest power consumption over the entire temperature and voltage range, and maximize system design flexibility for different applications by providing multiple low-power modes. In power benchmarking, the RA2E1 MCU scored 321 on the EEMBC® ULPMarkTM at 1.8V, validating its best-in-class power consumption. Users can now reduce operating power consumption to near standby levels to extend battery life.

The RA2E1 MCU also provides the IEC60730 self-test library and has integrated safety features that confirm that the MCU is functioning properly. Customers can easily take advantage of these safety features to perform MCU self-diagnostics. In addition, the RA2E1 includes AES hardware acceleration, a True Random Number Generator (TRNG) and a storage protection unit, building the basic building blocks for developing secure IoT systems.
The RA2E1 product group comes with an easy-to-use Flexible Configuration Package (FSP), which includes a state-of-the-art HAL driver. FSP simplifies the process and significantly speeds up development through GUI tools, while also allowing customers to easily migrate from legacy 8/16-bit MCU designs. Designers who choose RA2E1 MCUs can also take advantage of the robust Arm partner ecosystem and gain access to a number of tools that help speed time to market.
